Drift, anchored in slack water, anchored in rivers (current), suspended drifting, etc. I made all my bases for these holders so that saved me a few bucks on the holders when I bought them from David @ Driftmaster.:smile2: Plus I look t rod holders like a woodworker looks at clamps. You can never have to many.:smile2: Thanks David

That said, the 3/8 holders are more proned to BEND from savage blue cat hits, or hangups while drifting. Once a holder starts getting bent, the metal gets fatigued and will eventually break. Though Driftmaster said they would replace it, I doubt that they would replace the rod and reel that you will lose.
My only criticism of DriftMaster rod holders it that the 3/8s shaft needs to be 1/2 inch. Bit fish can bend 3/8s. nd if you add an extension to the shaft it just provides the fish more leverage. It all depends on what your catching. Still, they are a fine rod holder at a decent price. I have used DriftMaster, Fishbites and Monster rod holders.
I'm the same way. Tiller drive and a 1972 16' Cajon 60". Great old boat, but it wasn't built with adding rod holders in mind. I like the setup in the second pic. I'll go check out the Fish Bite Rod holders. they sure look like they will fill the bill. Thanks for posting that! Mic
I ordered Fishbites big 1/2” threaded dual rod holders and got the regular flat bases. Because months ago I found some Driftmaster pro bases for fitting the round top of my gunnel on clearance for $5 each. I’ve used Driftmaster holders for years and they’ve been good. But these bases are the same as the 3/8” bases except for the 1/2 ...
If you want 1/4 20 threads that means that you are going to have a 1/4 (.25) inch hole with 20 threads per inch when finished. If you want a 3/8 (.375)-16 thread you will want to drill a 5/16 (.312) hole and then run your tap through that. If you are going with 1/2 (.500) 13 then drill a 27/64 (.421) hole. Reply Like.

I took some aluminum angle and. drilled a hole for the holder and then two holes on the other side to bolt it to my boat. Drift master makes these bases but to me they are to small, your holder sticks over the.
