Soorarai Pottru (transl. Praise the Brave) is a 2020 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by Sudha Kongara, who wrote the screenplay with Shalini Usha Nair.The film, co-produced by Suriya, Jyothika and Guneet Monga, stars Suriya, Aparna Balamurali and Paresh Rawal, while Mohan Babu, Urvashi and Karunas appear in supporting roles.
Sudha Kongara Prasad, known professionally as Sudha Kongara, is an Indian film director and screenwriter who predominantly works in Tamil. In 2016, she directed the bilingual Irudhi Suttru (Saala Khadoos in Hindi) for which she won the Filmfare Award for Best Director – Tamil.
The 2020 Indian Tamil-language film Soorarai Pottru (or Udaan, in Hindi) was partly inspired by events from the life of Gopinath and is based on his memoir Simply Fly: A Deccan Odyssey. [28] In 2024, Sarfira starring Akshay Kumar, based on the life of Gopinath was released.
The film marks G. V. Prakash Kumar's second collaboration with Sudha after Soorarai Pottru and his second collaboration with Akshay Kumar after Joker. The music rights were obtained by Junglee Music. [17] The first single titled "Maar Udi" was released on 24 June 2024. [18] And the second song titled "Khudaya" released on 27 June 2024. [19]
The film also emerged as the only Indian film amongst 366 films eligible for Best Picture in the award ceremony, [9] [10] but was eventually not nominated. [11] Soorarai Pottru was screened at the Chennai International Film Festival [12] [13] and also at the Panorama Section of the Shanghai International Film Festival.
