Nail informs the trio of a powerful evil force approaching the planet. Vegeta knows it is the Ginyu Force, Frieza's five most elite henchmen. Reluctantly, Gohan and Krillin agree to ally with Vegeta to use the Dragon Balls to make Vegeta immortal so that he can defeat the Ginyu Force, and Frieza, more easily.
The next fighter from the Ginyu Force is the massive Recoome. Vegeta pulls out all the stops, but he is no match for Recoome. The giant begins to toy with Vegeta, despite the pleas from the remaining members of the Ginyu Force. With Vegeta out of commission, Krillin steps in to save him. Though he does his best, he is easily defeated.
The Ginyu Force proves too powerful, but Goku finally arrives and defeats them single-handedly, saving Vegeta, Gohan, and Krillin. Vegeta believes Goku may have become the legendary warrior of the Saiyans, the Super Saiyan ( 超 ( スーパー ) サイヤ人 , Sūpā Saiya-jin ) .

Gohan is left behind to guard the Dragon Balls while Vegeta, the prince of the Saiyans, is taking a nap. On his way to meet Guru again, Krillin sees Dende flying in the opposite direction.
