The Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) is the public library system for residents of Montgomery County, Maryland. The system includes 20 publicly accessible branches as well as a branch in the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
The Brigadier General Charles E. McGee Library, formerly the Silver Spring Library, is part of the Montgomery County Public Libraries System. It opened to the public in 1931 and is currently located at 900 Wayne Avenue in Silver Spring, Maryland. The library is named for Charles E. McGee, a Tuskegee Airman who had lived in Montgomery County.

The library started with 1,200 items inside the Conroe School Recreation Center in 1946. It was originally maintained by a women's group known as the HUB Club. In 1948 the library became a branch of the Montgomery County government, with an allocated budget of US$25,000. The first librarian was Katherine Ard.
Founded in 1966, the Free Library of Springfield Township provides free access to over 60,000 educational and recreational materials to all Springfield Township and Montgomery County residents. Since its opening, the library has been dedicated to creating a community center for lifetime learning.
