Al-Iskandariya or Alexandria (Arabic: الإسكندرية, also given as Iskandariyah, Iskanderiyah, Iskanderiya, Iskanderiyeh or Sikandariyeh or Al Askandariyah) is an ancient city in central Iraq, one of a number of towns in the Near East founded by and named after Alexander the Great (Al-Iskandar in Arabic).
Forward Operating Base Iskandariyah (Arabic:إسكندرية), or FOB Iskandariyah, was a United States military forward operating base located on the grounds of the Musayyib Power Plant and the banks of the Euphrates River, north of the town of Musayyib, Babil Governorate, Iraq from 2003 to 2009.
The Al Iskandariyah (Alexandria) airfield was said by some sources to be one of eight major Iraqi Air Force bases in 1991. [1] It was a large and expansive facility containing several hundred buildings and an extensive number of protective burms for aircraft revetments, maintenance shops and hangars, anti-aircraft missile sites and weapons storage areas.
