With these calculations, if you buy a 16 kWh battery pack, it will cost you $5,984 in 2020 (16 kWh x $374/kWh). If you select a battery with the Volt's 40 miles per charge, the battery pack will cost you $3,520. He asked the service advisor about the cost of just battery module #1 and was told it would cost $4,500 if it was not covered under the warranty. See Post ...
The real, today, price for a 2012 volt battery replacement from a GM dealer, including all three battery modules and tax, is $13,721.60. It is very frustrating that there is a narrative on the internet that it can be done for a few thousand dollars, or that a salvage pack can be installed by a dealership.
Remove the fuse block retainer clips and reposition the fuse block. Remove the battery retainer bolt (9Nm, 80 lb in). Remove the battery hold down strap and the hold down retainer. Remove the battery from the rear compartment area. Putting in the new battery would involve reversing the above steps.

I just performed my first Volt battery swap over the weekend on my 2011 Volt and I wanted to document what I learned.

The battery heater unit is a 2kW dedicated 300V heater located close to the battery pack. The replacement of the battery heater may require dropping the battery pack from under the Volt to complete the repair. $1100 is probably based on the service manual estimate for labor plus the cost of the battery heater.

The dealer charged me $10,283 + tax. Parts $ 9,092 and Labor $1,190. See invoice. Whether this typical or not, who knows.
Given the cost to repair, I would sell the car to a salvage yard and buy another used Volt. 2017 Bolt Premier, CBT. 2015 Spark EV, 2LT, CBT Penguin-The other white meat. Used battery from eBay or a salvaged Volt from an insurance company auction. Ask another dealer. $10k is very high. $4500 or so would be reasonable.
2018 12V Battery Replacement. So after 4 years, our 2018 Volt left us stranded in the heat of Palm Springs. 12V battery was completely dead. Jump starting didn’t work; as soon as the car started, the second I’d shift to D, the car would turn off. I ended up sourcing the only “compatible” battery on a Saturday, which was nearly 40 miles ...
