Callaway County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri.As of the 2020 United States Census, the county's population was 44,283. [1] Its county seat is Fulton. [2] With a border formed by the Missouri River, the county was organized November 25, 1820, and named for Captain James Callaway, grandson of Daniel Boone. [3]
Callaway is an unincorporated community in Callaway County, Missouri. [1] The community was located approximately two miles south of Kingdom City and just west of U.S. Route 54 . The site was on the Chicago and Alton Railroad and on the north bank of Richland Creek .
The Kingdom Oil Company, owned by B.P. (Bernard Parker) Beamer, suggested Kingdom City, in reflection of the nickname for Callaway County. Through the 1920s and 30s numerous dance halls, restaurants, cafés, and hotels would come and go in Kingdom City. In 1965, Gasper's (which became a local landmark) opened for business.
