Sin Chew Daily (星洲日報) – Malaysia (including Johor Bahru and Johor Bahru District)'s largest and number one nationwide Malaysian Mandarin-language oldest daily newspaper for Malaysian Chinese community was officially first established and first published based in Singapore as Sin Chew Jit Poh (星洲日報) on 15 January 1929.
Due to the Newspaper and Printing Presses Act enacted in 1974, starting from 1975, the two newspaper in Singapore and Malaysia had a separate ownership, which the Singapore edition was owned by Sin Chew Jit Poh (Singapore) Limited; [2] the Malaysian edition was sold by Sin Poh Amalgamated in 1982. In 1974, after the Newspaper and Printing Presses Act was passed in Singapore, the Singapore branch of Sin Chew Jit Poh was reorganised into a public entity under the name Sin Chew Jit Poh (Singapore), while the Singapore edition of Nanyang Siang Pau became owned by Nanyang Press Singapore. [5]
The newspaper merged with Singaporean edition of Sin Chew Jit Poh on 16 March 1983 to form the current Lianhe Zaobao and Lianhe Wanbao and has ceased to exist. [9] A version of the newspaper is still in print in Malaysia.
