Glendo State Park is a public recreation area surrounding Glendo Reservoir on the North Platte River in Platte and Converse counties in Wyoming in the United States. The Platte River Wilderness is primarily located in south central Wyoming, with a small section extending into Colorado in the United States.Located entirely within Medicine Bow - Routt National Forest, the wilderness was created in 1984 to protect the forestlands adjacent to the North Platte River.
The town was incorporated in 1922. The California Trail, Oregon Trail and Mormon Trail passed south of Glendo. [6] The Overland Stage Line also passed south of Glendo. [7]It was in a cabin near the town that William L. Carlisle, one of America's last train robbers, was captured in December 1919 after a shoot-out with the posse pursuing him.
A Street is designated as WYO 319 Spur for 0.2 miles (0.32 km) between WYO 319 and I-25/US 26/US 87 (exit 111). As WYO 319 leaves Glendo, at 15.4 miles (24.8 km), there is a road named Lake Shore Road that travels east of WYO 319 and allows access to Glendo State Park, one of Wyoming's most popular boating parks. Glendo Reservoir is a reservoir located on the North Platte River in Platte County and Converse County in the U.S. State of Wyoming. The reservoir is formed by Glendo Dam . The earthfill dam is 2,096 feet (639 m) feet long and 190 feet (58 m) high and contains two hydroelectric turbines capable of generating 38 megawatts of power. [ 1 ]
The Grassland ranges in elevation from 3,600 to 5,200 feet (1,100 to 1,600 m), and the climate is semi-arid. The Grassland provides opportunities for recreation, including hiking, sightseeing, hunting, and fishing. There are no developed campgrounds; however, camping is allowed.
