According to Roy F. Dunlap's 1950 book "Gunsmithing", the Model 1893 was already a rare weapon in the turn of the 1950s, with there being few "in existence or at least in use". He also notes that original parts were extremely difficult to acquire anymore, and only limited few of the Model 1897's parts could be used as replacements.

The term caliber change in firearms refers to the process of permanently altering a firearm to allow it to fire a different cartridge than the one it previously fired. With a bolt action rifle, this is mostly done by reshaping the current chamber through machining it with a new reamer, or by replacing the barrel with a new barrel, which has a new cartridge chamber machined into it.
Using action threads to mount a barrel to a receiver typically requires fitting by a competent gunsmith, and typically some machining has to be done. In this process it is important so set the correct headspace. [2] Correct mounting is important both for safety and accuracy. [3]
Solid projectiles may be free-flying (as with bullets and artillery shells) or tethered (as with Tasers, spearguns and harpoon guns). A large-caliber gun is also called a cannon. Guns were designed as weapons for military use, and then found use in hunting. Now, there are guns, e.g., toy guns, water guns, paintball guns, etc., for many purposes.
