Anne Douglas, Countess of Morton (c. 1610 – 15 December 1654), born Anne Villiers, [1] was an English noblewoman, famed for her beauty, bravery and loyalty to the throne. The first half of the 17th-century closet drama Cicilia and Clorinda was dedicated to her.
Douglas attended Milton Academy, [2] received her B.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University and B.Phil. from the University of Oxford.She taught at Princeton University from 1970 to 1974 and was the first woman to teach in Princeton's English department and the first woman to be offered assistant professorship at Harvard.
