A Wikipedia reader can click on the thumbnail, or on the small double-rectangle icon below it, to see the corresponding file page which will let the user see the image in its original size. Although the above text may appear in multiple lines for formatting purposes, the actual image text is on one line, as it uses spaces without any line breaks.
See the Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Images § Size for further guidance on expanded or reduced image sizes. Except with very good reason, do not use px (e.g. |thumb|300px), which forces a fixed image width measured in pixels, disregarding the user's image size preference setting.
Articles carry reduced-size thumbnails instead of full images (which the user can view by "clicking through" the thumbnail) but in some file types a thumbnail's reduced dimensions doesn't translate into a concomitant reduction in file size. (In most browsers you can see a thumbnail's size by right-clicking for its "Properties".)

Under the image there should be a set of numbers in the form "NNNNxMMMM." This is the size of the image in pixels. If these numbers do not appear, then the image is smaller than the limit you specified for display in the "Files" pane in your preferences. If you did not adjust that limit, the default size is 800x600 pixels.
This category is for images of posters of specific events whose usage on Wikipedia pages is considered fair use under United States copyright law (if they are of low resolution and there are no "free" alternatives for illustrating the event in question).
