José Francisco Morazán Quesada was born on October 3, 1792, in Tegucigalpa (then in the Captaincy General of Guatemala, now the capital of Honduras) during the waning years of Spanish colonial rule to Eusebio Morazán Alemán and Guadalupe Quesada Borjas, both members of an upper-class Creole family dedicated to trade and agriculture.
The first Honduran town they arrived in was San Antonio de Texiguat. The town offered Morazán support with weapons and men. General José Justo Milla discovered the presence of General Francisco Morazán in southern Honduras and quickly moved with his troops to Tegucigalpa, where he established his command headquarters.

Morazán went to the town of Sabanagrande to prepare for a decisive combat in the "Valle de la Trinidad". At 9:00 in the morning of November 11, 1827, Colonel Ramón Pacheco made the first maneuver commanding his force of men to take a position at the road leading from Ojojona to the Valle de la Trinidad.
When President Morazán learned that the Head of El Salvador, Jose Maria Cornejo, had contacts with exiled Conservatives, and conspired to change the order of things established by triumph of the liberal party in 1829, he moved to Santa Ana, in January 1832, where he received, from the rebel leader, a strict order to leave that territory.
