Flugwerft Schleissheim is an aviation museum located in the German town of Oberschleißheim near Munich, it forms part of the Deutsches Museum collection and complements the aviation exhibits on display at the main site. The museum was opened on 18 September 1992. [1]
The concept design process for the exhibition was led by the director of the Deutschlandmuseum, Robert Rückel and designer Chris Lange (Creative Studio Berlin). Karlstor in Munich (called Neuhauser Tor until 1791) [1] is a medieval city gate, which served as a defensive fortification and a checkpoint. [ 2 ] It is located at the western end of Neuhauser Straße , a portion of Munich's down-town pedestrian zone, which was part of the salt road and the east–west thoroughfare of the historic old town.
Today the museum is the second largest in Germany, outnumbered only by Berlin, with a collection of 200.000 objects and an exhibition area of 4,500 square meters. The total area is about 12,000 m 2 and includes also facilities for carpentry, metalworking, painting and restoration, magazines, a meeting- and conference-room and offices.
