Sir Robert Woodard Academy. The Performing Arts at the Academy has long been central to the surrounding communities. [3] There are several bands, choirs and drama and dance groups which endeavour to share a love of the arts with pupils and audiences alike, performing regularly and to a high standard.
Those who complete the four-year program receive either a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree, a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree (starting Fall 2012), or a diploma. [ 13 ] [ 14 ] Each year's class is identified by a group number: Group 1 started in 1968 and graduated in 1972; [ 15 ] Group 54 includes students completing their fourth year in 2025.
The school admits around 250-300 incoming freshmen students each year, with Media Arts, Dance, Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts accounting for a portion of the incoming freshman. However, Visual Arts is by far the most applied to and the largest, with around 30%-40% of the school belonging to the Visual Arts Academy.
The university's Arts Bank Theater seats 230, and the Laurie Beechman Cabaret Theater is located in the same building. The university also utilized the adjacent Drake Theater, primarily for dance productions. The Caplan Center for the Performing Arts, located on the 16 & 17th floor of Terra Hall – which opened in 2007, housed two theaters.
Commercial Art Technology; TV Production; Students in the Design Arts & Entertainment Academy are involved in multimedia activities such as live broadcasting, commercial art, and graphic animation. Hands-on experience prepares students for careers in design arts and television. WRMN8 (TV production) is the school's news station.
