JavaScript is the server-side language used to develop services for the Opera Unite feature of the Opera browser. This is a server built into the browser. The JavaScript API includes local file access to a virtual sandboxed file-system and persistent storage via persistent global variables. PostgreSQL: V8: Embedded language PLV8 [7]
One example of this is Bash, which offers the same grammar and syntax as the Bourne shell, and which also provides a POSIX-compliant mode. [13] As such, most shell scripts written for the Bourne shell can be run in BASH, but the reverse may not be true since BASH has extensions which are not present in the Bourne shell.
While Bash was developed for UNIX and UNIX-like operating systems, such as GNU/Linux, it is also available on Android, macOS, Windows, and numerous other current and historical operating systems. [12] "Although there have been attempts to create specialized shells, the Bourne shell derivatives continue to be the primary shells in use."
Bash, interpreted language for scripting Unix and Unix-like operating systems; Groovy, Java-like, object-oriented scripting; JavaScript (later: ECMAScript), originally limited to running in a web browser to dynamically modify a web page; later enhanced into a widely portable, general-purpose programming language
The Bourne shell, sh, was a new Unix shell by Stephen Bourne at Bell Labs. [6] Distributed as the shell for UNIX Version 7 in 1979, it introduced the rest of the basic features considered common to all the later Unix shells, including here documents, command substitution, more generic variables and more extensive builtin control structures.
echo began within Multics. After it was programmed in C by Doug McIlroy as a "finger exercise" and proved to be useful, it became part of Version 2 Unix. echo -n in Version 7 replaced prompt, (which behaved like echo but without terminating its output with a line delimiter).
read is a command found on Unix and Unix-like operating systems such as Linux. It reads a line of input from standard input or a file passed as an argument to its -u flag, and assigns it to a variable. It is built into shells such as Bash. [1]
In JavaScript, an object is an associative array, augmented with a prototype (see below); each key provides the name for an object property, and there are two syntactical ways to specify such a name: dot notation (obj.x = 10) and bracket notation (obj["x"] = 10). A property may be added, rebound, or deleted at run-time.
