The Tavares, Eustis & Gulf Railroad (TE&G), advertised as the Orange Blossom Cannonball, was a tourist railroad company operating excursion trains on historic track owned by the Florida Central Railroad, [1] from October 2011 to late March 2017.
The line from Tavares to Mt. Dora was chartered as the Sanford & Lake Eustis Railway Co. in 1885. Construction began in Sanford in 1885 and its rails passed through Sylvan Lake, Sorrento, and Mount Dora before reaching Tavares in 1887. [1] The line crossed the Orange Belt Railway in Sylvan Lake and was constructed to 4 ft 9 in (1,448 mm) gauge.
The museum displayed muscle cars, "pro cars", foreign cars, and a more than 45-year-old collection of "automobilia" (auto antiques). The line was mainly used to ship citrus fruit and other agricultural products, though its passenger trains also brought tourists to the city. The Mount Dora History Museum (formerly the Royellou Museum [3]) is located at 450 Royellou Lane, Mount Dora, Florida. It contains exhibits depicting the history of Mount Dora. [ 4 ] The building itself, constructed in the 1920s, was originally the firehouse and jail for the city.
