Jenks was named after William Henry Jenks the owner and director of the Midland Valley Railroad. According to a 1957 article in the Tulsa Tribune, an agent for the townsite company was told by the railroad home office to name a town for the director. [5] The town was officially platted on July 15, 1905.
In 1977, he became the head coach at Jenks High School in Jenks, Oklahoma, where he led the team to its first two state championships in 1979 and 1982, and retired after the 1990 season. His career record was 109–53. [1] He is a member of the American Indian Athletic Hall of Fame [4] and the Oklahoma Coaches Association Hall of Fame. [5]
