Modern-day Raffles Place, the financial heart of Singapore. The first underground car park in Singapore was constructed in 1965 under Raffles Place. The building is near other skyscrapers, such as One Raffles Quay, The Sail @ Marina Bay and Ocean Building, [3] all of which are around 100 metres away. [4] It has a direct link to Raffles Place MRT station via an air-conditioned underground mall. [5] The building is a Grade A office building, and its basement contains retail space. [6]

At its completion, it was the largest building for the Standard Chartered Bank worldwide and also represented the largest single investment by a British company.
Initially named St Andrew's MRT station, the station was included in the early plans for the original MRT network in 1982. Construction of the tunnels between the City Hall and Raffles Place stations required the draining of the Singapore River. The station opened on 12 December 1987 as part of the MRT extension to Outram Park station.
