Today, the Crow people have a federally recognized tribe, the Crow Tribe of Montana, [1] with an Indian reservation, the Crow Indian Reservation, located in the south-central part of the state. [ 1 ] Crow Indians are a Plains tribe , who speak the Crow language , part of the Missouri River Valley branch of Siouan languages .
The dwellings and site plan of the 3-acre (1.2 ha) site are based on lengthy archeological excavations sponsored by the Dayton Society of Natural History, which owns and operates the site as an open-air museum. Because of its archaeological value, the site was listed in 1974 on the National Register of Historic Places.

Leforge (July 9, 1850 – March 28, 1931) was an American writer who was the author of Memoirs of a White Crow Indian, his highly detailed account of living among the Crow Indian nation during the mid-to-late 19th century, first published in March 1928 by The Century Company at the hand of Thomas B. Marquis, and republished by the University of Nebraska Press.
