The Hana Highway (colloquially referred to as The Road to Hana) is a 64.4-mile-long (103.6 km) stretch of Hawaii Routes 36 and 360 which connects Kahului to the town of Hana in east Maui. To the east of Kalepa Bridge, the highway continues to Kipahulu as Hawaii Route 31 (the Piilani Highway).
Technically, the Road to Hana is the Hana Highway located in East Maui. It’s the 65-mile long portion of Hawaii Route 36 and 360 with Kahului at one end and Hana town at another.
Hana is located at the eastern end of the island of Maui and is one of the most isolated communities in the state. It is reached mainly via the Hana Highway, a long, winding, 52-mile-long (84 km) highway along Maui's northern shore, via boat, and with commercial air service to Hana Airport.
The cross can be accessed through a 1.5 mi (2.4 km) round trip hike with 500 ft (150 m) elevation gain. The trailhead is located across from the Travaasa Hana hotel. In addition to the cross, the trail also leads to a panoramic viewpoint of Maui's eastern coast. The grounds around the cross have an ant infestation. [1]
