A powerful fox known as the Nine-Tails attacks Konoha, the hidden leaf village in the Land of Fire, one of the Five Great Shinobi Countries in the Ninja World. In response, the leader of Konoha and the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, at the cost of his life, seals the fox inside the body of his newborn son, Naruto Uzumaki, making him a host of the beast.
However, Sasuke uses his Sharingan to enter Naruto's mind and stop him from reaching the Nine Tails. With Sasuke meeting him for the first time, the Nine Tails compares Sasuke's chakra to that of Madara Uchiha before being totally suppressed by the young Uchiha. As his chakra dissipates, the Nine-Tails warns Sasuke not to kill Naruto.
Naruto enters Nine-Tails Chakra Mode, and a huge duel ensues. Near the end, Naruto grasps the last remaining shred of Hinata's scarf and channels his chakra to deliver a punch strong enough to pin Toneri against the wall and depower him, stopping the moon from falling. Hinata takes Hanabi's eyes back from Toneri and returns them to her sister.

Furido and Asuma continue fighting. While Naruto manages to reason with Sora, Sora touches Naruto and their Nine-Tailed Fox chakra resonates. This causes Naruto's real Nine-Tails cloak to appear. Yamato tells Sakura that he cannot control Naruto and he himself must fight against the 9 tails mentally, which Naruto successfully does.

Kakashi suppresses the Nine-Tails chakra inside Naruto with the tag that Jiraiya gave him. Team Guy attacks Deidara who apparently self-detonates by ingesting his own clay. Kakashi counters with Kamui and teleports himself and the others to safety. Naruto and friends seemingly mourns for Gaara.
