Clear Creek is located within the Hocking Hills region of Ohio, with gorges and bluffs formed by Blackhand sandstone. Because it is farther west than most other lands within the region, the erosion-resistant sandstone occurs at higher elevations. The entire Metro Park area covers 5,470 acres as of 2019.
The most remote of all Columbus Metro Parks, Clear Creek is located near Rockbridge in the Hocking Hills region of southeast Ohio. Nearly the entire park is designated a State Nature Preserve, making off trail activity prohibited. Clear Creek is a tributary of the Hocking River. It starts in western Fairfield County and flows southwest into northern Hocking County . In the upper half of the creek's watershed was glaciated and currently has a large amount of agricultural land use.
