It was primarily represented by a "full hands" design, which symbolized agriculture. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the city was renamed from Teslinograd to Akmola and later to Astana. For the first few years after becoming the capital of an independent Kazakhstan, the city did not have an official coat of arms.
In 2010, an OSCE Summit was held in the Palace of Independence. The meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, as well as anniversary summits of SCO and OIC, have taken place in the palace. The most significant event in the history of the palace was a 2019 meeting of speakers of the parliaments of the Eurasian countries. [4]
The flag of Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, was designed by the first President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. The current version of the flag was adopted along with the coat of arms of Astana by the Astana City Mäslihat on 18 November 2022.
