James Newell Arnold (August 3, 1844 – September 18, 1927) was a collector and publisher of genealogical and historical records of the state of Rhode Island. His major achievement was the publication of the 21-volume set entitled The Vital Record of Rhode Island (1636-1850).
One of three children, Kenneth Angell was born on August 3, 1930, in Providence, Rhode Island, to Henry and Mae (née Cooney) Angell. [1] After attending public elementary schools in East Providence, Rhode Island, he studied at Our Lady of Providence Seminary [2] in Warwick, Rhode Island and at St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore, Maryland. When Providence was incorporated as a city in 1832, he was elected its first Mayor. He served in that office until his death in 1840, at the age of 66. Bridgham became the first mayor of Providence at a time when disorder and vice threatened the city. His solutions were free public education, temperance, and relief for the poor.
