Big Darby Creek is a scenic river located in northwestern central Ohio, and an important tributary to the Lower Scioto River. The river's major tributary is the Little Darby Creek . The river runs 84 miles (135 km) from its source near the Champaign - Union county line, south-east through Union and Madison Counties.
The Ohio River Water Trail was conceived and developed by Dr. Vincent Troia, Executive Director of the Ohio River Trail Council. In the 1945 report recommending the formation of the Metro Park system, the Big Darby and Little Darby creeks were identified as a site of a future park. In 1950, the organization began acquiring land that would become the Darby Creek Metro Park. The park opened to the public in 1959 with 119 acres. [6]
The Little Darby and Big Darby were listed as a state Scenic River in 1984. The creeks were listed as national Scenic Rivers in 1994. [3] [4] Little Darby Creek for many years appeared to be bigger than Big Darby Creek at their confluence. This was due to a concrete fill dam across the path of the Little Darby Creek just north of the confluence.
Bridgeport is an unincorporated community in far western Darby Township, Union County, Ohio, United States. [1] It lies at the intersection of State Route 38 with Orchard Road, midway between the villages of Milford Center and Unionville Center.
