The Kinks were an English rock band formed in London in 1963 by brothers Ray and Dave Davies.They are regarded as one of the most influential rock bands of the 1960s. [3] [4] The band emerged during the height of British rhythm and blues and Merseybeat, and were briefly part of the British Invasion of the United States until their touring ban in 1965.
British singer Clinton Ford also released a version of the song as a single in the same year. The Kinks' Pye Records label mate David Garrick included the song on his 1967 album "A Boy Named David", as well as a live version on the 1968 German release "David Garrick and the Dandys - Blow-Up Live".
The song and its music video influenced Oasis's #1 hit "The Importance of Being Idle" from 2005. [36] An unreleased alternative recording of the song from October 1966 was issued in December 2008 on the Kinks 6-CD box set Picture Book. In 2010, Davies also recorded this as a duet with Amy Macdonald on the album See My Friends.
