USS Coral Sea (CV-43) near San Francisco in March 1983. On 25 March 1983, Coral Sea, having been reassigned to the Atlantic Fleet, left Alameda for her new homeport of Norfolk. The Navy sent the ship on a six-month around-the-world cruise, with ports of call in five countries. [8] Coral Sea was replaced on the west coast by Carl Vinson.
