Kawaki (Japanese: カワキ) is a fictional character in Ukyō Kodachi and Mikio Ikemoto's manga Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.Initially appearing in the flashforward in the series debut, Kawaki is a young man and later genetically an Ōtsutsuki who apparently would become the nemesis of the series' lead character, Boruto Uzumaki.
Kawaki awakens in the infirmary and Sumire tells him about Boruto's survival. Kawaki curses Amado but is also glad for the first time to have Karma. Kawaki and Boruto meet and Boruto tells Kawaki Momoshiki's prophecy. Kawaki expresses that he will kill anyone who poses a threat to Naruto while Boruto is determined to prove the prophecy wrong.
Now that Boro can no longer fight, Team 7 prioritizes rescuing Naruto by using Boruto and Kawaki's Karmas to open a portal through the seal and release him. However, Boro regains control of his body and proceeds to crush Team 7 one-by-one before beating Boruto into the ground until his Karma activates, causing Momoshiki to manifest.
Shikamaru explains that Araumi and Jibiki have been imprisoned, while Ikada's fate is unclear. Kawaki criticizes Boruto's naivete and his views on the war, before storming off. Running into Team Denki, he realizes they are just as childish as Boruto. Naruto relates to Boruto's struggles about wars and suggests he should patch things up with Kawaki.
Eida's true power, Omnipotence, activates, rewriting everyone's memories to believe Kawaki is Naruto's son and Boruto a traitor. Kawaki forces Eida to lie, claiming Boruto killed Naruto. Momoshiki explains the situation to Boruto as his prophetic vision comes true, forcing Boruto to fight and flee from his former comrades.
Despite being based on the manga, the anime explores original storylines and adaptations of the spin-off manga, Naruto: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring; [1] Boruto: Naruto the Movie; [2] as well as the Naruto Shinden light novel series. [3] It premiered on TV Tokyo on April 5, 2017, and aired every Wednesday at 5:55 PM JST. [4]
Across this fight, Naruto and Boruto reconcile. In Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, the manga starts in a distant future where Naruto is implied to be dead or missing in action by an enemy of Boruto, Kawaki. [98] In the anime before Boruto became a ninja, Naruto often made appearances with his new family. [99]
Boruto defaces the Hokage Mount in order to get Naruto's attention. In his attempt to get chased, he runs into Sarada, who covers for him. Boruto is quickly caught by Shikamaru, who remarks that Boruto and Naruto are very similar, being father and son, which Boruto resents (Shikamaru makes a similar comment about Shikadai and himself).
