The new Tiverton Library and council offices. Tiverton's revival in recent years began with the construction of the A361 (the North Devon Link Road) in the late 1980s. In the 1990s, an industrial estate was built at Little Gornhay on the north-eastern edge of the town and a junction was added to the Link Road, with a distributor road (now the A396) into the town that has become its main gateway.
In the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Tiverton had a population of 717 living in 313 of its 382 total private dwellings, a change of -1.1% from its 2016 population of 725. With a land area of 2.26 km 2 (0.87 sq mi), it had a population density of 317.3/km 2 (821.7/sq mi) in 2021.
Tiverton is located on the eastern shore of Narragansett Bay, across the Sakonnet River from Aquidneck Island (also known as the Island of Rhode Island). Together with the adjacent town of Little Compton, the area is disconnected from the rest of the state of Rhode Island.
