In 1918 “The Ellsinore News” began publication. Its name was later changed to “The Carter County News.” The newspaper folded in 1926. In 1919 a new school building, a two-story brick structure, was built on the south side of town on the site where the school currently stands. In 1920 the Farmers State Bank was established.
