Suginami (杉並区, Suginami-ku) is a special ward in the Tokyo Metropolis in Japan. The ward refers to itself as Suginami City in English. As of June 1, 2022, Suginami has an estimated population of 588,354 and a population density of 17,274 persons per km 2 . [ 1 ]
It is located in western part of former Tokyo City and is almost coterminous with Suginami Ward (a small area in the east is part of the Tokyo 27th district). The district was created in 1994 as part of an electoral reform effort in the Japanese House of Representatives, and was first implemented in the 1996 general election.
