Leicestershire County Council is the upper-tier local authority for the non-metropolitan county of Leicestershire, England. The non-metropolitan county is smaller than the ceremonial county, which additionally includes Leicester. The county council was originally formed in 1889 by the Local Government Act 1888.
Leicestershire County Council consists of 55 elected members, from 52 wards. The most recent election was the May 2017 elections , where all seats were up for re-election. Following these elections [ 20 ] the current political composition of the council is 42 Conservatives, 9 Liberal Democrats and 4 Labour councillors.
