Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), is a public sector, integrated steel plant in Rourkela, Odisha state, India.It was established on 3 February 1959 with the help of West German industrial corporations on approximately 19,000 acres of land acquired from tribal inhabitants.
The preliminary survey for the steel plant at Rourkela was started in 1952 and the Government of Odisha issued a gazette notification on 16 February 1954. In accordance with the notification, the Government of Odisha acquired an area of about 80 square miles around Rourkela for the purpose of Steel Plant.
Rourkela was connected to Barsuan iron ore mines in 1960. [2] In earlier days the railway station of Rourkela was within the village of Mahulpali. The railway station gained in importance with the setting up of India's first public sector steel plant at Rourkela in the nineteen fifties. [3] It was electrified in 1961–62. [4]

Stadium is the Home Ground of Odisha Hockey Team. Situated on the middle of Sector-5 and Sector-6 areas on the side of the main road leading to Sector-6. The said stadium was constructed and maintained by SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant authority having AstroTurf with nylon grass for national and international level hockey match and practice.
Ispat General Hospital under RSP, SAIL, has a legacy of six decades.
