Scotland County was the scene of three notable engagements during the American Civil War.The first happened at Etna on July 21, 1861. The 1st Northeast Missouri Home Guards under Colonel David Moore with assistance from additional units from Iowa and Illinois attacked pro-Confederate Missouri State Guard (MSG) forces using Etna as a training and resupply point.

Scotland is an unincorporated community in Jasper County, Missouri, United States. [1] It is located slightly northwest of the junction of Missouri Route 66 and Interstate 44 / US 71 . A post office called Scotland was established in 1873, and remained in operation until 1908. [ 2 ]
Granger was incorporated by petition to the Scotland county court on July 3, 1912. [6] Adjacent to the Burlington Northern Railroad , Granger's business district at the time of incorporation included three general stores, two hotels, a bank, drug store, hardware store, grocer, meat market barber shop, livery, and blacksmith. [ 6 ]
