The John Baynton House is an excellent example of the Federal style cottage in Natchez, and contains fine architectural details with regional characteristics. [2] [3] [4] It has one story and a half. [3] The house was built for John Baynton, a land speculator, in 1833. [3]
Stanton Hall occupies an entire 2-acre (0.81 ha) city block north of downtown Natchez, bounded by High, Commerce, Monroe, and Pearl Streets. The property is ringed by wrought iron fencing with elaborate gate posts. The house is a three-story brick structure, plastered and painted white.
Beginning in 1932 during the Great Depression, charging tourists for tours of the antebellum Natchez planters' homes, including Lansdowne, during the annual Pilgrimage tours brought in much needed money to keep the home livable. [20] A cotton plantation scene from the movie Show Boat (1951 film) was filmed on Lansdowne Plantation. [21]
