Castro Valley High School is located in the unincorporated suburban community of Castro Valley, California, United States. It is a high school for grades 9 to 12. Named a National Exemplary School in 1984–85 and 1988–89, it was a California Distinguished School in 1987–88, 2000–01, and 2009.
On a national level, in 2010 CVHS was ranked as the 130th best of all high schools in the United States. [4] Centreville High School currently enrolls approximately 2700 students in grades 9–12. The first class graduated in June 1842. Through much of the school's history, there were two graduating classes per year, in January and June. Converting Clayton Valley High School into a charter school was first suggested in 2010. [7] A petition was submitted to MDUSD on June 9, 2011, [7] and the proposal was debated for several months in 2011. Part of the controversy was that CVHS students who did not wish to attend CVCHS would be sent to other MDUSD high schools.
The school serves grades 9-12 and is part of the Houston Independent School District. [5] It is the only High School Vanguard Program in HISD, meaning that all students are labelled as gifted and talented by testing and the school has students take all Advanced Placement core classes as part of its curriculum.
