SriLankan Airlines is the flag carrier of Sri Lanka and a member airline of the Oneworld airline alliance. It was launched in 1979 as Air Lanka following the termination of operations of the original Sri Lankan flag carrier Air Ceylon. As of April 2024, it is Sri Lanka's main airline by number of aircraft and destinations.

Air Ceylon was the former flag carrier airline of Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). The airline discontinued flights to Europe in early 1978 and finally ceased all local services on 31 August 1979, when it was replaced by Air Lanka. Air Lanka was later rebranded to SriLankan Airlines. [2]
FITS Aviation (Pvt) Limited, DBA FitsAir (formerly known as ExpoAir), is a Sri Lankan airline. It operates scheduled passenger services within Sri Lanka, as well as international cargo flights to several cities in the Middle East, Asia and Africa, and also operates charter flights to India. The company slogan is Friend In The Skies.
As of September 2023, Flynas served 54 destinations across 99 routes; the airline has Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, and Medinah as operating bases. [ 20 ] Assiut and Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt initial service by the carrier began in 2009, with flights to the latter initially operated on a seasonal basis. [ 21 ]
In 2019 the Indian government agreed to redevelop Batticaloa Airport and the Sri Lankan government agreed to make it an international airport as well. [20] [21] Cabinet approval was given in September 2019 to make the airport a regional airport, allowing international flights but not long-haul flights.
