St Helen's House: Derby Edward Strutt (grandson of textile pioneer Jedediah Strutt) was awarded the title in 1846. St Helen's House was built in 1767 and was bought by Edward's father in 1801. Derby School acquired the house in 1863 and moved out to new premises in 1966. The house is a Grade I listed building.
It is the only ancient oak woodland in the city of Derby. In 1991, it was declared a local nature reserve. The wood contains a nature trail open to the public, roughly half a mile long. This is a popular resource for the people of North Derby and in Spring the wood is covered by a carpet of bluebells as can be seen in the photograph on this page.

Following the completion of repairs and renovations to St. Helen's House, in October 2013 a Blue Plaque was placed by Derby Civic Society and Derby City Council commemorating the house as the former residence of William Strutt and Rev. Thomas Gisborne. [12] In 2013 a firm of accountants took out a lease on the offices within the house. [2]
