Stella Adler (February 10, 1901 – December 21, 1992 [1]) was an American actress and acting teacher. [ 2 ] A member of Yiddish Theater's Adler dynasty, Adler began acting at a young age.
She attended the Stella Adler Studio of Acting and graduated from Marymount High School, a Catholic school in Los Angeles. She then went on to study film and psychology at University of Southern California . [ 4 ]
Irene Gilbert (born Irene Liebert or Liebeschutz; August 25, 1934 – May 21, 2011) was a German-born American actress and acting school director, who co-founded the Stella Adler Academy in Los Angeles, with actress Joanne Linville, in 1985. [1] She served as the academy's director for around two decades after its establishment. [1] [2]
Linville retired from acting in the 1980s to concentrate on teaching. [6] She taught "The Power of Language" course at the Stella Adler Academy in Los Angeles in 1985. [5] One of her students was Mark Ruffalo, who wrote that she "does not theorise about great acting. She is great acting". [6]
