HKU was ranked #17 worldwide in QS 2024, #35 worldwide in THE 2024, #88 worldwide in ARWU 2023, and #44 worldwide in U.S. News 2024. The Aggregate Ranking of Top Universities (ARTU), which sorts universities based on their aggregate performance across THE, QS, and ARWU, found that HKU was the 42nd best-ranked university worldwide in 2023. Approved post secondary colleges This type of colleges are allowed to give out academic awards at bachelor's degree level or above as well as to include the Chinese words " 學院 " or " 大學 ", or the English word "University" in the registration name with prior approval from the Chief Executive-in-Council .
The college was merged to become the medical school of HKU in 1911, [citation needed] one of the university's first faculties. [citation needed] The establishment of the Queen Mary Hospital in 1937 brought the faculty a major clinical teaching and research base.
After World War II, the Government Trade School became the Hong Kong Technical College in 1947, offering both full-time and part-time courses. In 1957, the new campus of the college located in Hung Hom was constructed. It was opened by Sir Alexander Grantham, the then Governor of Hong Kong. [11]
The Faculty of Arts, along with the Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Medicine, are one of the first Faculties of the University of Hong Kong when it was established in 1912. [2]
The university lends its name to HKU station, the main public transport access to the campus (and the Lung Fu Shan and Shek Tong Tsui neighbourhoods), opened on 28 December 2014. The Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine is situated 4.5 km [ clarification needed ] southwest of the main campus, in the Southern District near Sandy Bay and Pok Fu Lam .
