The Lower Naugatuck Valley refers to the area focused on the city of Derby. The towns within the watershed area of the lower valley are Shelton, Seymour, Woodbridge, Ansonia, and Derby. The towns of Beacon Falls, Oxford, and Naugatuck, usually grouped together in the central valley region, are also sometimes assigned to the lower valley region.

The Derby Greenway is a 2.05 miles (3.30 km) long multipurpose trail located on the west side of Derby, Connecticut along the Naugatuck and Housatonic Rivers. The Greenway is part of the Naugatuck River Greenway Trail System, a proposed 44 miles (71 km) multipurpose trail that follows the Naugatuck River from Torrington to Derby. [1]

The highways connects the New Haven and Danbury areas via the Lower Naugatuck River Valley. The portion of the route between New Haven and Derby was an early toll road known as the Derby Turnpike. It formerly ran through downtown New Haven on the Oak Street Connector until the early 2020s.
