The Royal Lancers (Queen Elizabeths' Own) is a cavalry regiment of the British Army. The regiment was formed by an amalgamation of the 9th/12th Royal Lancers (Prince of Wales's) and the Queen's Royal Lancers on 2 May 2015. It serves in the 1st Deep Reconnaissance Strike Brigade Combat Team.
On 6 June 1860 the regiment was reorganized as a lancer regiment and renamed Regiment "Lancieri di Montebello". In 1861-63 the regiment operated in the Capitanata area to suppress the anti-Sardinian revolt in Southern Italy after the Kingdom of Sardinia had invaded and annexed the Kingdom of Two Sicilies. [5]
During the winter of 1944/45, troops of the regiment were forced to fight as infantry in the Apennine mountains, manning trenches and using machine guns and mortars. [3] The final offensive of the war that the regiment took part in was the Battle of the Po Valley. On 2 May the Germans surrendered to the Allies, ending the Italy campaign. [4]
The regiment Lancers of the Imperial Guard was a French cavalry unit of the Second Empire, forming part of the Imperial Guard. Set up in 1855, it was disbanded with the rest of the Guard by decree on October 28, 1870. Organized in Melun, the regiment underwent various upheavals before being definitively reduced to six squadrons in 1867.
The 24th Lancers was a cavalry regiment of the British Army that existed from late 1940 to mid-1944.
