The Silent Patient is a 2019 psychological thriller novel written by British–Cypriot author Alex Michaelides. The successful debut novel was published by Celadon Books, a division of Macmillan Publishers, on 5 February 2019. In its starred review, Kirkus Reviews called The Silence a "vivid" book, and that "in its evocation of people in the throes of social crisis, it feels deeply resonant." [3] Publishers Weekly praised DeLillo's "mastery of dialogue" and said the work stood out among DeLillo's short fiction but felt "underpowered" compared to his novels. [4]
The book follows the life of Dr. Anna Fox who suffers from agoraphobia and lives a reclusive life at her large home in New York City, where she one day witnesses a murder across the street. A film adaptation by the same name directed by Joe Wright and starring Amy Adams in the title role was released by Netflix in 2021.

In Bookmarks Mar/Apr 2009 issue, a magazine that aggregates critic reviews of books, the book received a (3.5 out of 5) based on critic reviews with a critical summary saying, "Critics agreed that if The Private Patient, a closed-room mystery, is not among the best in the series, it nonetheless outranks most crime fiction".
