Although Harris sang several numbers on the soundtrack album to the film musical Camelot the previous year, A Tramp Shining was Harris' first solo album.

The original members left the band following the last White Lion studio album Mane Attraction in 1991 and had no interest in reforming the original band. To avoid legal issues with former members, the band was known as Tramp's White Lion when this album was re-released in 2004 under the title Last Roar. [3]
Since 2009, following White Lion's last studio album Return of the Pride, Tramp has been writing and recording as a solo artist releasing nine studio albums, Songs of White Lion is a tribute to Tramp's most successful band of his career.
