Sombrero Key Light is located offshore of Vaca Key in Marathon, Florida. [2] The lighthouse is located on a mostly submerged reef.The name Sombrero Key goes back to the Spanish, and old charts show a small island at the spot, but by the later 19th Century the island had eroded away, with some parts of the reef exposed at low tide.
Then in August 1858, John Brandon purchased 40 acres (160,000 m 2) in the New Hope area (now Brandon) and 160 acres (0.65 km 2) later on and then named his land "Brandon". John and his second wife Victoria's house was located on what would become the corner of Knights Avenue and Victoria Street.
Finally, the statue's base is inscribed with a quote from Dr. Bethune: "Invest in the human soul. Who knows, it may be a diamond in the rough." [7] The statue replaced Confederate General Edmund Kirby Smith's statue as one of Florida's two offerings to the collection.

The National Statuary Hall Collection in the United States Capitol is composed of statues donated by individual states to honor persons notable in their history. Limited to two statues per state, the collection was originally set up in the old Hall of the House of Representatives, which was then renamed National Statuary Hall.
This list of tallest statues includes completed statues that are at least 50 m (160 ft) tall. The height values in this list are measured to the highest part of the human (or animal) figure, but exclude the height of any pedestal (plinth), or other base platform as well as any mast, spire, or other structure that extends higher than the tallest figure in the monument.
