Lake Conroe is a 21,000-acre (85 km 2) lake in Montgomery County, Texas, United States. Even though it is named Lake Conroe, only the southern third of the lake is in Conroe, Texas . Most of the lake is in unincorporated Montgomery County, while a small northern sliver juts into neighboring Walker County where the Baker Bridge is located.
The previous Houston-Dallas route through Willis, U.S. route 75, is now Texas State Highway 75, running parallel to Interstate 45 through downtown Willis. Farm to Market Road 1097 connects Willis to Lake Conroe and Montgomery to the west. Its eastern terminus is Texas State Highway 150 to the east of New Waverly.
It passes near Lake Conroe before entering the city of Conroe and an intersection with Interstate 45. Residential development of the area began in the 1960s with the building of a subdivision known as Lake Chateau Woods. A civic club was formed during the late 1960s that eventually pursued incorporation to improve infrastructure in the area. Residents voted in favor of incorporating the community on December 6, 1975.
