The ridge crosses Westmoreland County and Fayette County into West Virginia then gradually disappears into a series of hills and finally ends roughly 5 miles (8.0 km) southeast of Morgantown, West Virginia.

A resident of Philippi for more than twenty years, I have known many so-called "Chestnut Ridge People." Of all that I've known, not one has ever accepted the term "guinea" as a form of self-identification. Instead, it is considered a derogatory term by most, if not all, in the community.
