The albums The Electric Light Orchestra, ELO 2, Eldorado, and Balance of Power were not represented on the compilation. A companion album Ticket to the Moon: The Very Best of Electric Light Orchestra Volume 2 featuring additional hit singles and deeper album cuts was released in 2007.
PLAY! A Video Game Symphony was a concert series that featured music from video games performed by a live orchestra. The concerts from 2006 to 2010 were conducted by Arnie Roth. From 2010, Andy Brick took the position of principal conductor and music director.
The opening track, "Turn To Stone", was described by Donald A. Guarisco as "a good example of Electric Light Orchestra's skill for mixing string-laden pop hooks with driving rock and roll", praising the "array of swirling string lines that dart in and out of the mix and some dazzling falsetto harmonies that interact with Lynne's lead vocal in call and response style".
