Outside of the American Quarter Horse Association's Hall of Fame & Museum in Amarillo, Texas. The American Quarter Horse Association was born at a meeting on March 15, 1940, in Fort Worth, Texas. The original idea had come from articles published by Robert M. Denhardt during the 1930s about the history and characteristics of the quarter horse.
Expensive Hobby was a 1971 buckskin gelding, sired by Hobby Horse, and out of a daughter of Stormy's Sugar named Jan's Helen. [2] Expensive Hobby was shown in reining 120 times, and won the class 110 of those times. [1] He won the American Quarter Horse Association, or AQHA, World Show Champion title in working cowhorse and reining in 1979. [2]

Scamper was a bay American Quarter Horse gelding foaled in 1977 and given the registered name Gills Bay Boy. Walter "Buddy" Draper raised Scamper in Wetmore, Colorado. The gelding could be tracked to Three Bars on his sire's side. [1] When Scamper bucked Buddy off, sending him to the hospital, [2] he sent the horse to an auction.
